Nathan stared around the group as they all held their weapons level at the intruder; whatever the plant was, it was reacting mindlessly to the shots.   From the look of things, Nathan’s first shot had shattered the mental capabilities of the creature. While it was alive, it was now reacting solely on instinct rather than any sort of mental facilities.   Now just a lumbering beast, it would squeal and roar into the air, disheartening the swabbie; however, at the same time, it gave him an idea.    Since thing was mostly foliage and was prone to burning, it seemed like the best course of action would be to ignite him.

Diving out of the way of one of the impacts as the creature rushed him, Nathan’s body flung itself directly around the bar putting something between him and it.  Thinking, he could hear it above him, raging desperately while flailing to and fro and hammering dents and holes into the counter top of the bar.  Christ, this thing is going to end up bringing the entire brothel down if this keeps up.  Nathan lamented inside of his own mind before taking careful aim and shooting out another of the beast’s eyes.

Answered with a roar of pain, a smile began to crawl across Nathan’s lips.  His gun raised up and he fired once more taking out the other.  Both hands flew up and covered the now smoldering holes as it tried desperately to gain its bearings.  “Tesla, Jack, Zephyr!  If any of you have a plan now would be a good time to share it.  Otherwise, I need a little time to think.”  As he roared this, the stares back that he received told him that none of them had an idea of what to do.  Typical, the fighters did the fighting and no thinking it would seem.  Nathan huffed a sigh pondering why he had even bothered questioning them and looked back behind him.

Row upon row of alcoholic beverages lined the back wall and several matches could be found in the drawers behind the bar; however, soaking the beast and getting close enough to ignite it would be difficult.  Not to mention hazardous, once it was on fire the creature would surely go wild and likely set the rest of the building on fire.  If they did it, they’d have to do it outside and that would draw attention, which is exactly what they didn’t need right now.  It’s out of the question.  Nathan told himself as he heard a shot fired to draw the creature’s attention away from him.   Poking his head up, he could see Tesla had shot the beast right at the base of his prick.  A response from the thing didn’t come with any sort of noise, rather it just rushed towards Tesla only to run right into the wall when she got out of the way.

Thinking it all over, Nathan remembered something, there was a furnace downstairs which the owner used burn away his trash and then sucked out the ash into a container far beneath the station.  Bingo, Nathan knew that the furnace was a walk in as well and could easily store a few bodies inside of it.  Standing up, he called out to the group again:   “Lead him to the basement!  Follow me!”  As he called out, the ground began to draw the attention of the beast.  Firing shots when they could and at other points simply diving out of the way of the rampaging monster.  Nathan lead the pack, as he said he would before getting to the door leading to the steps.

Just as he was about to open the door, he saw the plant bumrush towards him, swiping Tesla and Zephyr out of his way into the wall.  Knocking the wind out of the pair before Nathan dove to the side and into the door.  It swung open on contact, saving Nathan from being turned into a red paste against the wall.  In return, it gave him a fall down a flight of stairs, sending him rolling against the last five steps and groaning heavily in pain as he hit the bottom.  Looking up, he could see the beast descending the stairwell, taking each step slowly while Nathan got back up to his feet.  Its eyes were starting to grow back, but Jack wouldn’t allow it.

Emerging in the doorway, Jack fired through the back of the thing’s head taking them out again and causing it to tumble.  Falling head first, the plant bounced down the stairs rolling about and colliding with the railings before finally hitting the bottom.  Undaunted by this, it rose up once more and stumbled hearing Nathan’s footsteps and started to run towards him.  It was like taking candy from a baby.  Nathan swung out of the way on the opening furnace door watching the creature run in before slamming it shut behind him.  Hitting the ignite button, the furnace activated instantly sending flames of almost thousand degrees blasting up through the tube that the creature had occupied.   Screams of agony echoed through the chamber, but Nathan didn’t hear them through the ten inch thick barriers.  Letting the furnace do its thing, he walked away and back upstairs.  Seeing Tesla having gotten back up to her feet, he gripped her by the arm and pulled her along with him.

“You, come with me,”  Nathan’s voice was devoid of its normal cheer at the moment.  “We’re driving down to see where these two came from, see if they have any more chain of command of if it was just another cut rate place.”  As he pulled Tesla along, the red-head would free her arm and walk along with him quietly before Zephyr ran towards them.

“I want to come too.”
